Editorial Guidelines

1. Introduction and Scope

FASE is grateful to its members and other contributors for the time and expertise they invest in submitting articles and other content for publication. These guidelines apply to all editorial contributions submitted for publication in Entrepreneurial Underwriter, the members' publication of the Fédération des Agences de Souscription Européennes ("FASE"), and in any other publications that FASE may produce from time to time (together, "FASE Publications").

These guidelines are binding on all contributors. By submitting an article or other content to FASE, a contributor is deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to these guidelines in full.

2. Submitting Articles and Content

2.1 General Invitation

FASE welcomes submissions on topics relevant to the interests of its members, including but not limited to: specialist and niche insurance markets; underwriting practice and innovation; regulatory and legislative developments; risk management; market trends; and professional development.

2.2 What to Submit

Submissions should ordinarily include:

• A completed article in its final proposed form, ready for editorial review;
• A brief biography of the author or authors (no more than 100 words per author);
• A declaration of any conflicts of interest or competing interests relevant to the article's subject matter; and
• Contact details for the lead author.

2.3 Format and Length

Articles should be submitted in Microsoft Word format. FASE does not prescribe a fixed word count, but contributors are encouraged to discuss intended length with the Editorial Team before submission. As a general guide:

• News and comment pieces: 400–700 words
• Feature articles: 800–2,000 words
• In-depth analysis or technical pieces: up to 3,500 words

2.4 Style

Contributors should write in clear, accessible English. Technical jargon should be explained where it may not be familiar to all readers. FASE follows the Oxford English Dictionary for spelling conventions. References and citations should be included where appropriate.

3. FASE's Editorial Rights

3.1 Right to Edit

FASE reserves the absolute right to edit any article or other content submitted to it, at any stage before or after acceptance for publication. Editing may include, without limitation:

• Corrections to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style;
• Structural or substantive changes to improve clarity, accuracy, or suitability for the intended readership;
• Reduction in length or condensation of content;
• Addition of headings, subheadings, captions, or other presentational elements;
• Removal of material that FASE, in its sole judgement, considers factually incorrect, legally problematic, defamatory, offensive, or otherwise unsuitable for publication.

Where FASE proposes material changes to the substance of an article, it will consult with the author.

3.2 Discretion over Publication

FASE has full and unfettered discretion over whether to publish any submitted article or other content. Submission does not, in any circumstances, create an obligation on FASE to publish. FASE may decline to publish a submission, or may withdraw a previously accepted submission from publication, without being required to give reasons.

Factors that FASE may take into account in exercising its publication discretion include, but are not limited to:

• The relevance of the content to FASE's members and readership;
• Editorial balance across a given issue or publication;
• The accuracy, quality, and originality of the content;
• Legal and regulatory considerations;
• Space and resource constraints.

FASE accepts no liability for any loss, cost, or damage arising from its decision not to publish, or to withdraw, a submission.

4. Ownership and Intellectual Property Rights

4.1 Assignment of Rights to FASE

Upon submission of an article or other content to FASE, and in consideration of FASE's consideration of that submission for publication, the contributor hereby assigns to FASE all intellectual property rights in and to the submitted content, including all copyright and related rights, throughout the world, for the full period of those rights (including any extensions or renewals), in all media and formats whether now known or hereafter invented.

This assignment takes effect at the moment of submission and is not conditional upon publication.

4.2 Moral Rights

Where applicable law confers moral rights on an author, FASE acknowledges those rights and will, subject to its editorial discretion, credit authors by name in published articles.

However, contributors consent to FASE making such alterations to their work as it considers necessary in the exercise of its editorial and publication rights under these guidelines.

4.3 Warranty by Contributors

By submitting content to FASE, each contributor warrants that:

• The submitted content is their own original work, or that they have the right to submit it and to grant the rights set out in these guidelines;
• The content does not infringe the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or any other rights of any third party;
• The content is not defamatory, misleading, or otherwise unlawful;
• All facts stated in the content are, to the best of the contributor's knowledge and belief, accurate; and
• The contributor has obtained all necessary consents, clearances, and permissions in respect of any third-party material included in the content.

Contributors shall indemnify and hold FASE harmless against any claims, losses, or costs arising from any breach of the above warranties.

5. Translation Rights

FASE reserves the right to translate any contributed article into any language other than the language in which the article was originally written, without being required to seek the contributor's prior approval for any individual translation. The contributor's assignment of rights under clause 4.1 is deemed to include all translation rights on a worldwide basis.

FASE shall have exclusive control over the form in which any translated version of a contributed article is published, including decisions as to the translation used, the translator appointed, any editing of the translated text, the timing and medium of publication, and whether to publish a translation at all. No contributor shall have any right of approval over a translation of their article, nor any entitlement to review or amend translated copy before publication.

Where a translation is published, FASE will endeavour to credit the original author, but shall be under no obligation to do so where the editorial or presentational requirements of a particular publication make this impractical.

6. Republication by the Author

6.1 Permission to Republish

Notwithstanding FASE's ownership of published articles under clause 4, FASE may, in its discretion, grant a contributor written permission to republish an article that has appeared in a FASE Publication.

6.2 Conditions of Republication

Any permission to republish granted by FASE is subject to the following conditions:

• The source of the article must be clearly and prominently cited in any republication, in the form specified by FASE.
• The article must be reproduced in the form in which it was published by FASE, unless FASE expressly agrees otherwise in writing. In particular, any edits or amendments made by FASE must be retained.
• Republication must not misrepresent the context in which the article was originally published, or imply any endorsement by FASE of the republishing platform or organisation.
• Permission to republish does not extend to commercial exploitation of the article (including sale, licensing to third parties, or inclusion in commercial databases) without FASE's prior written consent.

Requests for permission to republish should be addressed to FASE's Executive Director. FASE is not obliged to grant any such permission and may impose additional conditions at its discretion.

7. Corrections and Complaints

FASE is committed to accuracy and fairness. If a contributor believes that an error has been introduced into their article during the editorial process, they should notify FASE's Executive Director promptly. FASE will consider all such notifications but is under no obligation to issue corrections.

8. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These guidelines, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes or claims), shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. The parties irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

9. Amendments to These Guidelines

FASE reserves the right to amend these guidelines at any time. The current version of these guidelines will be available on request from FASE and will be deemed to apply to all submissions received on or after the date the amended guidelines come into force.
